Bioarchaeology is the study of biological and microbiological remains to reconstruct past environmental conditions and past patterns of human behaviour.

Bioarchaeological analysis of sediments in geoarchaeological core samples, monoliths or bulk-samples from archaeological sites can therefore provide a broad range of information about natural flora and fauna as well as providing evidence for past environmental conditions
and human impacts on those ecosystems.

Bioarchaeological analysis can provide information at a range of spatial scales from the scale of an individual archaeological feature such as a pit or ditch, to the scale of the broader landscape context of a site.

ARCA’s purpose-built laboratories and our network of specialist associates allow us to offer a full suite of bioarchaeological analyses. Bioarchaeological analyses can often be deployed alongside
