Assessment, Research and Publication Services
High-quality 'Desk-based Assessments' (DBAs), historic research and report writing/publication are central to many aspects of work in the heritage sector. Whether the client is a large developer or an individual house owner, a genealogist, archaeologist, architect or historian, the work needs to be done accurately and to a high standard every time. ARCA provides a professional service tailored to the needs of individual clients and works within both the commercial environment of PPS5 archaeology and academic and private research.

Assessment, Research, Reporting and Publication ServicesDesk Based Assessments
A detailed understanding of the archaeological/historical significance and potential of buildings, site and regions enables appropriate decisions to be made in terms of (re)development, restoration and conservation. Having this information in advance of a planning application can save both time and money. In some cases, however, a DBA is an archaeological condition placed on a development by a local authority and in this way it can contribute valuable information to the planning stages of a project.

Historical Research
ARCA is also well equipped to provide historical research to non-archaeological clients, for example genealogists and local historians. This might include historic map 'regression' - showing changes in land use in the area they or their ancestors lived in; archive and documentary research. It might also be the integration of a collection of historical documents in order to write a history of a building or neighbourhood.

Editing and Translation Services
Furthermore, ARCA offers valuable archaeological editing and translation services, essential during the final stages of the publication process.

ARCA's archaeological services are designed to help clients at all archaeological investigation stages, and our Research and Publication services can contribute to the initial project formulation and research design all the way through to the final analysis and publication.
